9/11 Memorial - Weehawken, New Jersey

To commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the 9/11 attack on America, a memorial park was planned, constructed and dedicated one year ago through a public/private cooperative effort. The site is in Weehawken, New Jersey , on the shores of the Hudson River near the location where tens of thousands of survivors of the World Trade tragedy were transported by ferry vessels from Ground Zero to Weehawken for medical treatment, food, shelter and transportation.

Five residents of Weehawken were among those who were evacuated that day. Their memory is forever preserved in an engraving on a commemorative plaque at the memorial. The immensity of the waterfront landscape at the site necessitated a memorial with a considerable presence to be consequential. To that end, two 50 ton structural steel tridents recovered from the debris from the World Trade Center were acquired and now serve as the centerpiece of the memorial within the serenity of a negative edge reflection pool overlooking the Hudson River, in sight of what once was Ground Zero.

This video slideshow provides a reminder of the tragic events of that day, and also documents the extraordinary efforts of those who participated in the design, construction and dedication of this distinctive memorial.
